Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment that uses electromagnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells, which may improve symptoms of depression. Repetitive TMS isn’t invasive and doesn’t require anesthesia so it can be performed on an outpatient basis. A typical treatment session lasts about half an hour. You’ll remain awake and alert during the procedure and you can return to your normal daily activities.
